A New Way to Wash My Makeup Brushes
Hey y’all! I’m back!!! Sorry that it’s been so long since my last blog. These past few weeks have been full of new beginnings and changes. I started a new job. And to top it off, I got married to my amazing husband, Corey! J
Enough of life. Let’s get down to business. Pop quiz: what is one of the worst parts about wearing makeup? Most of you probably said, “taking it off at the end of the night”. For me, it’s cleaning the makeup brushes. I absolutely HATE cleaning brushes and sponges. This is why I usually have duplicates of many. That way, I don’t have to wash them as often.
Despite me hating the cleaning process, I am a firm believer of not using dirty brushes and sponges on my face. When you use dirty brushes, you are more like to have breakouts due to the fact you’re smearing bacteria and dirt all…over…your…face. That’s gross!
When I clean my brushes, I typically use Cinema Secrets Professional Makeup Brush Cleaner. This stuff is the truth! I can clean all of my brushes in no time. The liquid uses capillary action to remove the oils, dirt, and makeup from your brushes. The best part is that your brushes are ready to be used almost immediately.
Fast forward to today. I realized that I am running low. I usually buy a 32 ounce from amazon. However, the price has over 25% more. I’m not trying to use all my money from the new job on brush cleaner. Not today! Because of this, I began doing research and looking up the best brush cleaners. I came across an article on self.com that gave different ways to clean brushes. I actually have the mat and Sigma brush cleaner that they described.
What intrigued me most about this article was the part about using dish soap and oil. I had never heard of that before. I was also curious of how the mixture would work together. If you haven’t heard of this method before, here’s what you do. You take 2 part dish washing soap and 1 part olive oil. You then wet your brushes individually. Then you swish the brushes in the mixture. After that, you work the bristles in your hand. Then rinse. According to the article, this method should clean your brushes.
I decided to try it. And I must say I was pleasantly surprised. My brushes looked impeccably clean. It wasn’t a long process either. Don’t get it twisted. It did take longer than using my Cinema Secrets. But it was a relatively quick.
There was one negative though. The article stated you could use this mixture on makeup sponges. I would NOT recommend doing that. It took me FOREVERRRRR to rinse the soap from it. I rinsed, rinsed, and rinsed again. That didn’t work. I had to keep at it for a very long time. In the future, I will just use my Beauty Blender Cleanser for the sponges. That doesn’t take as long. And to be honest, the length of time is what makes me hate cleaning my brushes in the first place. I want to be able to clean my brushes quickly and efficiently so that I can go on about my day and eventually play in more makeup.
If you have a cleaner that you like, whether it’s a DIY or one that you purchase, let me know.
As always, thank you for taking time out of your day to spend it with me.
Until next time,
J. Michelle
